M: We absolutely need to have this ready for publication by May, so that it’s ready for the summer vacation catalog

W: But that’s not really possible, Mr. Jackson; the final draft is not even finished

M: I’ve been speaking to the author, and she says that she will be able to send the final draft to us by next Monday.

W: In that case, as long as there are no hold-ups with the proofreader and we get the photos by the end of this month, we may be able to have it ready in time

M: Hi, Susan. This is Mike. Listen, could you do me a huge favor?

W: Well, I’ll try. What is it?

M: I have an appointment with a new client this afternoon, but I can’t make it. Could you do it for me? Another important client has called me in for an emergency meeting. I really have to be out of the office this afternoon, and I can’t get back here before 3:00 p.m.

W: Well, in that case, of course I’ll be happy to take over for you. Why don’t you drop by the office later so I can tell you how it went?

M: Hi, Suzie. I’m just ringing to see if you got the job

W: Oh, hi John. Well, actually, I’m not sure. But I do have to go for a second interview thi afternoon

M: That’s great! I guess you must be excited. Where is your second meeting supposed to happen anyway?

W: At the big building next to the art gallery downtown. Hey, do think we can meet up for lunch today before I go to my interview? I really could use some inside information about your supervisor. He is going to interview me today.
